White Sox announce Zach Bove as new pitching coach, retain Wise as bullpen coach

November 5, 2025 by WGN 9

CHICAGO (WGN) — The Chicago White Sox have named Zach Bove as their major-league pitching coach, while Matt Wise will return for his third season as the White Sox bullpen coach.

Bove, 37, spent the last three seasons as a major-league assistant pitching coach with the Kansas City Royals. In 2025, the Royals ranked sixth in the major leagues with a 3.73 ERA, while allowing the eighth-fewest home runs (171).

One of Bove’s biggest success stories is the development of rookie left-handed pitcher Noah Cameron. Last season, Cameron ranked among the MLB rookie leaders in WHIP (2nd, 1.10), opponents average (2nd, .214), ERA (3rd, 2.99), wins (T-4th, 9), starts (5th, 24), strikeout/walk ratio (5th, 2.65), innings pitched (5th, 138.1) and strikeouts (6th, 114).

Bove, a native of Winter Haven, Fla., spent the previous four seasons (2019-22) with the Minnesota Twins organization, serving as the minor league assistant pitching coordinator from 2021-22, a special projects coordinator in 2020 and the pitching coach at the Gulf Coast League Twins in 2019. Prior to joining the Twins, he spent seven years at College of Central Florida as the pitching coach and recruiting coordinator (2014-18) and hitting coach (2012-13).

Bove played first base collegiately at Central Florida from 2007-08 and Flagler College in St. Augustine, Fla. from 2009-10. He earned a master’s degree in positive coaching and athletic leadership from the University of Missouri in 2015.

Wise joined the White Sox prior to the 2024 season. The Sox bullpen threw a franchise-record 657.1 IP in 2025, second-most in the major leagues, and ranked fourth in MLB with 645 strikeouts. During his tenure, Sox relievers rank second in the majors in strikeouts (1,301) and third in IP (1,296.0).

Rookie right-hander Mike Vasil led all major-league relievers last season with 90.0 IP, becoming the first rookie in White Sox history to lead the majors in that category. Vasil also ranked among the MLB rookie leaders in ERA (1st, 2.50), opponents’ average (1st, .204), WHIP (4th, 1.25) and innings pitched (11th, 101.0).

According to team officials, the White Sox will announce additional major-league coaching staff hires for the 2026 season in the near future.
