Bears Could Trade Former Fourth-Round Bust Soon – 3 Suitors Possible

October 19, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

Even though the Chicago Bears have found some life in their offense, the same can’t be said about running back Roschon Johnson, and they could trade him. One source believes that the Bears may trade Johnson since he hasn’t seen the field despite dealing with an injury during this year’s preseason. Originally selected in the 2023 NFL Draft, the former Texas product has been a complete bust this season. He did put up some promising numbers in his rookie year, but he has been nonexistent.

Since they drafted a seventh-round pick this year, running back Kyle Monangai, it makes sense for the Bears to move. While starter D’Andre Swift was a trade candidate this past offseason, he finally found some life, but it doesn’t mean the Bears shouldn’t trade another running back. If that happens, it will only spell bad news for Johnson to find some role on this offense behind Caleb Williams. It’s not that he isn’t a healthy scratch since he’s been active for the past three games, so it’ll be interesting to see what the Bears do here.

Just because Chicago finds itself in the winning column and the schedule looks to be in their favor, the Bears won’t hesitate to trade him and get a better option in return.

Potential Next Teams

Dallas Cowboys

After losing Miles Sanders for the rest of the season, the Dallas Cowboys can’t get complacent and must find a reliable suitor to back up Javonte Williams. Even though the offense is on fire, they aren’t able to compensate for their horrible defense. While Dak Prescott, Williams, George Pickens and CeeDee Lamb will do all they can to keep the team in each matchup, they must find ways to get creative here. This doesn’t mean that a trade for Johnson means that their roster will strengthen overnight.

It buys the offense some time to chip away at the time on the clock, and Williams pairing with Johnson could be like a 1-2 punch. They don’t need the most drastic trade candidate that might be available, but enough to move the chains and punch their ticket for a postseason appearance. Johnson is arguably better than Sanders if given the right opportunity.

Indianapolis Colts

Meanwhile, all of the right things are happening in Indianapolis. With Daniel Jones finding his mojo in a new scenery, this offense should be enough for a playoff appearance if the consistency and momentum remain intact. However, it doesn’t go to say that this team doesn’t need to improve. Running back Jonathan Taylor is one of the league’s special downhill runners in the league.

The only issue here is depth. DJ Giddens is solid, along with Tyler Goodson, but they need to think about how far they want to go in the postseason. This is something the Colts should think about when considering trading for an RB addition to help Taylor. Johnson is nothing special and has more untapped potential, but he could turn into a viable option.

Kansas City Chiefs

Unfortunately, the Kansas City Chiefs’ running game could be better. Isiah Pacheco is still a phenomenal downhill runner, but it’s hard to envision him being the same coming off his injury last year. With veteran Kareem Hunt slowing down, it’s safe to say the Chiefs need a replacement here. While rookie Brashard Smith develops, they could trade for Johnson at a low-stakes acquisition to add depth.
