Grant Taylor exits Wednesday’s game with a right groin strain

The White Sox bullpen could be without a key arm for the rest of the season.

Right-handed reliever Grant Taylor exited Wednesday night’s game with a right groin strain. The team says he will be further evaluated on Thursday with an MRI.

Taylor sustained the injury during his ninth-inning appearance against the Rays. After issuing a lead-off walk and falling behind 1-0 to his next batter, the reliever called for a trainer and left the game. If Taylor requires a stint on the IL, he could be shut down for the remainder of the season.

Taylor has appeared in 31 games during his rookie campaign, owning a 2-4 record with a 5.68 ERA over 31.2 innings. While his FIP and xFIP suggest some bad luck, Taylor has still shown swing-and-miss potential along with areas for improvement with his command.

The White Sox have high expectations for the LSU product and view him as an impact arm for them moving forward. The big question entering Spring Training will be whether that’s as a lockdown closer or as a starter.
