The going is weird. Cub Tracks™ turned pro a long time ago. Cub Tracks™. Where the great ones run away.
Any MLB team can beat you. The good teams WILL beat you.
“I’m sorry, my plans are full.” — Seiya Suzuki.
I know it’s not popular, but I’d just as soon not have the seventh-inning stretch. I didn’t care for Harry, most of the singers can’t carry a tune in a wheelbarrow, and celebrityhood means little to me. I had never heard of Alex Cooper before.
But whatever. It’s just stuff. A good time to get a fresh beer or other trendy amusement aid, or take care of nature. I’m not part of the target demo, I prefer Mike Portnoy to Dave, may he topple from his barstool. I’d rather hear Alice Cooper, wouldn’t you?
No game Monday. Tuesday the Cubs commence a series against the Minnesota Twins at Target Field, where it’s nice and cool.

- Jon Greenberg (The Athletic {$}): This is the ‘next great Cubs team’ Chicago has been waiting for. “It’s hard to remember the pessimism we had about the Cubs coming into the season.”
- Jordan Bastian (MLB.com*): Boyd’s long road back culminates in 1st All-Star nod. “You always have an extra spot at the table just in case destiny knocks, you know?” Boyd said. Bob Nightengale says nice things* {$}.
- Paul Sullivan (Chicago Tribune* {$}): Chicago Cubs looking at in-house options for now with starter Jameson Taillon likely out for a month. “What a luxury to have a guy like Chris Flexen throw multiple innings, or call up a guy like Jordan Wicks who is more than capable of getting big-league hitters out,” Taillon said.
- Tony Andracki (Marquee Sports Network*): Cubs might have to overpay for starting pitchers in trades. “… who the Cubs acquire — and when they make a move — is still up in the air.”
- Brett Taylor (Bleacher Nation*): Are the Cubs actually talking to the Pirates or are the Pirates trying to build a market? “… adding Keller is certainly better than adding no one at all.”
- Randy Holt (North Side Baseball*): This Daniel Palencia thing sure is fun. “Armed with a triple-digit fastball, Palencia has nailed down the closer job for the 2025 Cubs.”
- Matthew Trueblood (North Side Baseball*): Michael Busch is on time, on target, and on a tear. “Cubs first baseman Michael Busch crushed the ball all weekend, with nine hits and 23 total bases in a three-game series.”
- Oliver Vandevoort (Cubbies Crib*): ‘He’s ready’: This Cubs rookie is turning heads in July. “Hot minor-league bat could force the Chicago Cubs to choose between promotion or dealing for pitching help.”
- Vinnie Duber (Chicago Sun-Times* {$}): Cubs turned the 2024 first-round pick into Kyle Tucker, so what’s next in this year’s MLB Draft? “A year after taking Cam Smith and trading him to the Astros for Kyle Tucker, the Cubs own pick No. 17 in this summer’s draft.”
- Patrick Reusse (Minneapolis Star-Tribune*): Twins hosting Cubs means Ron Coomer returns to Minnesota. “He was a worthy player for the Twins…”
