The full All-Star rosters were announced, which means some players got snubbed. The Nationals make a change. The draft and trade deadline are coming.

Good morning.

  • The full All-Star Game rosters were announced.
  • Here’s the roster without a lot of the commentary attached if you just want the names.
  • Jake Mintz has some thoughts on each player on both rosters.
  • And of course, with every roster there come “snubs.” Jordan Schusterman has his roster of All-Star “snubs.”
  • Chad Jennings has his list of All-Star “snubs.” (The Athletic sub. req.)
  • Matt Snyder has his list of “surprising snubs”
  • Bradford Doolittle is nicer. He has a list of All-Star “oversights” and some other thoughts on the rosters.
  • David Schoenfield has some of the all-time most obscure All-Stars. Several former Cubs are on his lists.
  • Theo DeRosa examines who might be the starting pitcher for the All-Star Game.
  • The Nationals fired general manager Mike Rizzo and manager Dave Martinez.
  • Ken Rosenthal writes that the firings of Rizzo and Martinez make sense but the timing doesn’t (The Athletic sub. req.), coming just a week before the draft in which Washington has the first pick.
  • Kiley McDaniel and Jeff Passan investigate what the firing means for the Nationals draft and trade deadline plans.
  • Sad news as former White Sox closer Bobby Jenks died of stomach cancer at 44. Our condolences go out to his family, friends, former teammates and the White Sox organization.
  • And more sad news as shortstop Bill Hunter passed away at 97. Hunter was the last surviving St. Louis Browns player as well as the last living member of the original Baltimore Orioles team. Again, our condolences go out to everyone who knew Hunter and the Orioles organization.
  • Yankees pitcher Clarke Schmidt will likely need Tommy John surgery.
  • Things have been going so poorly for the Yankees that superstar Aaron Judge was hit in the face with a throw by teammate Anthony Volpe.

  • Brian Murphy has the five most interesting trade deadline teams.
  • Diamondbacks pitcher Zac Gallen doesn’t want to be mentioned in trade rumors. Bob Nightengale reports.
  • Mark Sheldon looks at what the Reds might do at the trade deadline.
  • Gabe Lacques reports on the growing pains number-one overall prospect Roman Anthony has had in his first few weeks in the majors.
  • Michael Wagaman reports on how starters Logan Webb and Robbie Ray have kept the Giants in the Wild Card hunt despite the many other problems with the team.
  • Julian McWilliams reports on how Padres infielder Xander Bogaerts is finally living up to expectations in his third season in San Diego. And other MLB notes.
  • Phillies starter Zack Wheeler faced 28 batters in a one-hitter of the Reds yesterday. The only blemish was a fifth-inning home run by Austin Hays.
  • The Pirates Oneil Cruz threw out a runner at home with a 105.2 mile per hour throw. It’s the second-hardest thrown outfield assist of the Statcast Era.

  • Cruz also made a trade with a ten-year-old fan, getting a black-and-yellow Spiderman mask the child made for him for a signed bat and batting gloves.
  • And finally, Nolan Ryan allowed only one walk-off home run in his entire career and it was hit by current Rangers manager Bruce Bochy. Shaun O’Neill remembers the incident and how it came about.
