Wins for Knoxville and South Bend.

Iowa Cubs

The Iowa Cubs were capsized by the Columbus Clippers (Guardians), 4-2.

Starter Kenta Maeda gave up a solo home run in the first inning and a two-run shot in the second. He settled down after that, but he still got the loss. Maeda’s line was three runs on three hits over six innings. He struck out six and walked two.

Left fielder Kevin Alcántara hit a solo home run in the ninth inning, his ninth on the year and his second in two days. Alcántara went 2 for 4 with a double and the home run. He scored twice.

Catcher Moisés Ballesteros was 2 for 4 with a double.

Shortstop Ben Cowles went 2 for 4.

Alcántara goes deep. Very deep. Please note the pitch appears to be a breaking ball.

Ryan Gallagher didn’t have his best start, but he pitched well enough to get the win. Gallagher allowed four runs on seven hits over six innings. He struck out six and walked one.

Brayden Riesdorph retired the side in order in the ninth for the save. Riesdorph did not have a strikeout.

The Cubs took the lead in the top of the seventh when first baseman Cameron Sisneros connected for a two-run home run. It was Sisneros’ first home run for South Bend and fourth overall. Sisneros went 1 for 3 with a walk.

Right fielder Andy Garriola was 3 for 5 with a stolen base. Garriola hit a two-run single in the third inning and scored twice.

It was a very good start for Nazier Mulé, but he got tagged with the loss anyway. Mulé gave up just one unearned run on three hits over five innings. He struck out four and walked just one, but he did hit two batters. Actually, he hit the same batter twice.
